Tuesday’s council meeting lasted less than two hours which reflects a recent (positive) trend in meeting duration. Hopefully the marathon sessions with chaotic endings that characterized the first half of 2022 are in the past. There’s nothing inherently wrong with long council meetings provided something of substance was accomplished, but that wasn’t always the case earlier.
Great seeing you this week down at the Court House. Love reading these weekly. One thing that has to be addressed, as I am sure you have seen, is the parking outside of the Courthouse. So much illegal parking. The City has to start ticketing more. Can't believe there have not been numerous accidents down there. Hopefully when Sal's parking garage opens it will be addressed. It's becoming more apparent that the city cannot adequately manage the Parking Department/Operations. Maybe it's time to consider a complete privatization of the whole operation. Up to and including selling the parking garages and ridding the taxpayers of yet another money losing enterprise......A good example of the types of reports that the council should be receiving is what was received this week regarding the Fire Department overtime situation. Almost all pertinent information is presented in the numerous reports/memos from both the City and the Fire Chief.
I am apprehensive about UML development along the Merrimack, behind the Tsongas. Now, the Riverwalk is beautiful with waterfalls, green space, historical markers and picnic spots. I hope developers consider aesthetics as well as economics.
