On Tuesday night the Lowell City Council voted to amend the Land Disposition Agreement the city executed in 2020 with Lupoli Companies LLC for several parcels in the Hamilton Canal District.
The Hamilton Canal District saga will be regarded as a huge setback for years to come. This City Council failed and would have us believe that something is better than nothing.
How will the 10k sq feet of commercial space be built out? One, two, five, ten units? The bigger the units it's more likely they will be occupied by large national chains where money flows out of Lowell. They could stay vacant for longer periods of time.
Having smaller units makes it easier for local businesses to open, would keep money in the Lowell economy, and would reduce the likelihood of conversion to housing.
Wasn't there a factory where the machine shop was?
I kind of like the open field over even more high rise things.
Also think a village of tiny houses and some little shops might be interesting.

Thanks for clear explanation of the revised agreement.
